Goonies 'r Green Enough!

Between Anne-Marie and I, we have watched the movie the Goonies close to 100 times. (Yes, you read that right!) Mouth was my favorite Goonie at first, but then I got a major crush on Mikey and he became my ultra-favorite. *Swoon.* Anyways, I still consider the Goonies one of the best movies of all time, and I can still recite several scenes by heart.

So, I'm always eager to hear what the "Goonies" are up to these days. Brand (Josh Brolin) has had some pretty big roles in "No Country for Old Men" and "W". Mikey (Sean Astin) has found great success with the Lord of the Rings trilogy. Chunk has fallen off the face of the earth (seriously, has Chunk done anything since that movie?).

And my original Goonie fave Mouth (Corey Feldman)? Well, if my memory serves me, he had a couple of big hit movies after the Goonies, then got addicted to drugs, then made a comeback on reality TV. Also... he became a singer! And he sings about the environment! Corey's band "Truth Movement" has a new single out called "Green is the Color." Check it out on his website. His album was printed using biodegradable materials like soy ink and a plastic disc tray made out of corn. Please join me in doing a truffle shuffle for Corey... between your vegetarianism and environmental activism, you are truly a (B-list) celebrity tree hugger!

You Go, Jackson Browne.

Eco-friendly celebrities warm my heart. While owning a huge gas guzzling Hummer and having a newly constructed 5,000+ square foot palatial mansion in Beverly Hills may have once been the norm, it seems that tree hugging celebrities who are trying to conserve resources and go green are on the rise. And when you have millions of dollars to spend, investing in all of the newest green technologies is as quick 'n easy as writing a (large) check! Plus, they can cash in on the tax credits they get for purchasing their new Prius's, which they can keep right next to their 2009 Hummers in the garage. (Do I sound cynical? Naaah...)

Anyways - for better or worse, I'd like to give a shout out to celebrities who are trying to do something to help the environment. On that note, I'd have to say that musician Jackson Browne is arguably one of the greenest celebs out there. Jackson's house is 100% off the grid. His home is powered by solar and wind energy. For heat, he has a wood burning stove. For water, a well. And for eggs, he has chickens. (Great idea! I want chickens too - but that's another post.) I wonder if he also has a composting toilet?

JB's house was recently featured on that "Living With Ed" show on the Planet Green channel, which is all about TV star Ed Begley, Jr. and his eco-friendly lifestyle. Did anyone out there see that episode? I've never actually seen the show, but it sounds very neat. I'll have to look into whether or not we get Planet Green... does that come with regular cable? Hmmm...
